Sheffield Cathedral – A place for all people
For the whole of its existence, the Trust has supported the work and mission of Sheffield Cathedral. In partnership with the Dean and Chapter, the Church Burgesses work to support the life and development of this centre of Christian worship for the Diocese of Sheffield where God has been worshipped for over 1,000 years.
Regular grants from the Trust help with the costs of running the Cathedral and special grants support building projects – such as the Community Resources Centre and the restoration of the lantern in the west end as well as initiatives to develop the Cathedral’s mission.
With the Simeon’s Trustees, the Church Burgesses share the responsibility as ecclesiastical patrons for the appointment of the Dean of Sheffield who, with other roles, serves as the senior priest at the Cathedral, leading the team of clergy and lay people who work to proclaim and share the mission of the Cathedral “To know, love and serve our Lord Jesus Christ and so become true witnesses to God’s kingdom”.
